| Description: Doubled dies are popular in every U.S. coin series. Look no further than the 1969-S DDO Lincoln cent, the 1916 DDO Buffalo nickel or the 1934 DDO Washington quarter. Fortunately, we have a number of dramatic DDO’s in Morgan dollar series, like this 1878 7TF dollar VAM 171. As the popular “Tripled R” variety, it earned its place in the TOP 100 listings by the strong doubling and tripling of the features on Liberty’s bonnet decorations. VAM 171 is very scarce and desirable. This specimen, which is a bit grungy, is right on the cusp of AU and is, in any case, a contender for a strong 7-TF set. |
